From the 1930’s, Amicitia was a well-known house that provided recreational facilities in The Hague. The many small rooms were converted into two halls after World War II. Dance and sport schools organized performances and contests, high schools their annual performance acts and festive nights, as well written works, and various societies held their annual assembly here.
The curtains dropped in 1986 when the house was closed and the complex demolished. Twenty new apartments were built on the site. The façade of the new building was a reconstruction of this former orphanage’s, dating from the 18th century.
This photo series of Amicitia was made in the early 1980’s, in its aftermath.
